Waving USA Flag Character Counts

Camp Emerson in Running Springs is a popular meeting place for large Scouting events, from Webelos through Eagle Scout. The 2003 Camp-O-Ree was a great opportunity for the scouts and Leaders to exchange ideas and to learn more about Scouting in a friendly-competitive atmosphere.

Our campsite theme was "Backpack Camping". Maybe somebody heard this ahead of time or that we had "Screaming Eagles" and "Pedros" patrols, but our assigned campsite was called "Eagles Nest".

Getting the highest and furthest campsite suited us just fine.

Throwing a line. One scout had to throw a line 50ft to another scout, who would fasten the rope to his "boat" and be "towed" back to shore.
Patrols were timed to ring -with their hands- a bell 12 feet off the ground. This favored the larger and older patrols.

Our Pedros outlasted the timer and impressed the judges with their tenacity.

With the Camp-o-Ree over and all of the trails around Camp, it seemed only natural to backpack out a different route from the one we took in.
