This was a "shakedown hike" for Summer camp and our High Sierras trip. We crossed
an avalanched-ravine but later found it tough to find a patch of snow
for snow-camping credit. The hike was moderate with some long uphill stretches. The
leaders were very impressed with the tenacity and discipline of the younger Scouts.
The older Scouts got to demonstrate their skills and tested some of their new
equipment. The newer Scouts got a taste of backpacking and went home with a better
understanding of "necessities" (are those extra jeans, D-cell flashlights and hardcover
books really necessary)?
