Waving USA Flag Character Counts

About 50 scouts and a dozen adults drove to Forest Lawn Scout Ranch/Circle-X Ranch at Cedar Glen, near Lake Arrowhead. We had some "pea-soup fog" to traverse, but were greeted by clear skies and comfortable mountain weather. We are the largest troop in the camp and the Scouts seem to be making quick friends with those in the other troops. The food is surprisingly good and complaints are sparse. Many letters and packages have arrived and were welcomed.

Many campers took advantage of the many overnight treks, and a few brave souls that stayed behind woke up early for the 6:00am "Polar Bear" swim, which (I'm told) gets colder every day.

The scouts probably earned more merit badges and advancement sign-offs than they did over the last several months! Everyone had fun. Scoutmasters were seen riding horses, swimming, shooting arrows/rifles/shotguns and weaving lanyards. There were actually scoutmaster-oriented courses in knots, CPR and GPS navigation.

Most of the merit badges were completed and there was a camp-wide relay event open to both scouts and scoutmasters. I'm pleased to report that Troop 148 fared very well in the various competitions. Friday was the birthday of one of our scouts, and one of our six dutch-oven-cooked cobblers was dedicated for this event.
