The Firestone Campground is extremely convenient to the L.A. area Scouting community, and it seemed strange that I
had driven near the camp so many times and never noticed this last island of wilderness in the heart of the great
suburban expanse. The only clue that we were near anywhere near Los Angeles was the power lines visible at the top
of some of the hills. The camp was clean and quiet.
The new scouts had a chance to test some new cooking recipes and learn some map & compass techniques. We did
skits by the Saturday campfire, followed by the award-winning dutch oven cobblers of Scoutmasters Ken & Mark.
After cooking breakfast and breaking camp, we loaded-up and hiked the 3 miles or so to the front gate. Everyone
had a good time.
