AUGUST 16 - 23, 2003
About 500 scouts worked on (mostly) their choices of merit badges and rank advancement classes, over a week's time. Most of the scouts qualified for swimming and went on to get swimming, boating, canoeing and other water-related badges. A morning (4:30am) hike to the top of Mount Sentinel to see the sunrise and "wake up the camp" was a worthwile challenge. I was flatly informed by one scout that this particular challenge was impossible. The scout was later seen in camp overflowing with pride for having accomplished the feat. Most of our people went home with about 3-5 badges and memories to last a lifetime.
The oddest things to an adult can become a cult classic to the kids. I think that even mention of the "Garbanzos" will instantly animate any of the scouts that attended this camp.
